VITSHUMBI : Des jardins détruits par des écogardes de l’ICCN, Limite du PN des Virunga clarifiée à Kasindi Lubirhiya

Vitshumbi, lundi 8 janvier 2024 – Des jardins des habitants de Vitshumbi, une localité côtière du Sud-Ouest du Lac Edouard, ont été détruits le samedi 6 janvier dans la matinée par des écogardes de l’Institut congolais pour la conservation de la nature (ICCN).

L’alerte a été donnée par un notable de la localité, Gloire Mbusa Muhila. Selon lui, les jardins des parcelles situés au quartier Bighoma dit Kyabingili ont été la cible des écogardes. Ils ont arraché aux environs de 5 heures, les légumes plantés dans ces parcelles.

« Je condamne cette façon de faire des écogardes. Ils doivent respecter les droits des habitants », a déclaré M. Mbusa. Il a appelé le gouvernement à passer à la limite participative du parc et la localité de Vitshumbi pour mettre fin à de pareilles situations.

La société civile de Vitshumbi, qui également condamne cette manière de faire des écogardes de l’ICCN, a promis poursuivre ce dossier. Nos efforts pour entrer en contact avec le responsable de l’ICCN dans ce secteur n’ont pas aboutis.

Dans une autre information, la limite provisoire du Parc National des Virunga à Kasindi Lubirhiya vient d’être clarifiée ce 6 janvier 2024 conformément aux résolutions du dialogue entre l’ICCN et les communautés locales tenue le 13 août 2022.

Ce travail effectué par une commission représentative (ICCN, autorités locales et coutumières, SOCIV, mouvements citoyens, communautés locales, etc.) instituée par le Gouverneur de Province vient mettre fin aux conflits entre l’ICCN et les communautés locales et ouvre la voie à la matérialisation de la dite limite provisoire à travers la construction de la clôture électrique dans un bref délai.

Cette mesure temporaire a été prise afin de freiner l’évolution de l’envahissement dans cette partie du parc qui n’a cessé de s’agrandir au fil des années et qui a été la source de plusieurs incidents malheureux.

Le cas du quartier Congo ya Sika (situé dans le parc et objet de ce compromis) est donc mis en veilleuse en attendant une décision finale du gouvernement central.
